Our Founder

"Children who attend full-day Kindergarten programs learn more in literacy and mathematics over the Kindergarten year than those in half day programs" (American Journal of Education).

Thanks for visiting my website!  For the past few years, I have noticed there are not many literature-oriented educational programs for children age 3 through
Kindergarten outside of their formal schooling. With the demands of academia today, it is so important that children get a jump-start on their education.  In fact, many children who enter kindergarten are not school-ready, and lack some of the skills needed for a successful learning experience. I founded The Appleseed because there is a need for a developmentally appropriate technology-based enrichment program that is literature-oriented. For the past 2 years, I have conducted research on how to incorporate technology and books into a successful learning experience. I want to increase your child's recreational reading and foster a love of books, while using current technology that is being used in local school districts.   Children should realize that not only are books and technology fun, but they can open doors to learning about the world around them.  And when a child graduates from my program, he/she will have learned information needed to succeed at the next level.

A Little More About Me:

After graduating from Florida State University with 2 Masters; Exercise Physiology and Library and Information Studies, I worked for the National Institutes of Health for 4 years.  Needing a change and realizing I wanted to work with children, I set out to become a Certified Library Media Specialist.  For 8 years, I worked in 2 special education schools in Anne Arundel County, MD, working with typical preschool peers as well as children ages 3-21 with multiple disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, Cognitive Disabilities, etc... Because of the various mental and physical disabilities of my students, I was able to adapt and accommodate to children with different learning styles.  In August 2013, after moving to Long Island, I became the School Librarian at the Edna Louise Spear Elementary School in Port Jefferson, NY.

Reading aloud to children is one of my greatest achievements in life.  Having stuttered growing up, I rarely read aloud, and if I did, I was teased by my fellow classmates.  But through perseverance, I overcame my fear and now find great pleasure in sharing my love of reading with children of all ages!

On a more personal note, my greatest joy is watching my 5 niece and nephews grow up!  I love sports, especially college football and basketball (I was a 4-year letter winner in college), being outdoors, working out, attending live sporting events, baking, hanging out with family and friends, and fashion.
